The Coastal Discovery Museum at Honey Horn actively pursues their mission to educate on the history and wildlife of the local Lowcountry. Featuring 68 acres of marshes and fields they host guided walks and talks about the island teaching everything from sea turtles to sandpipers. Learn about the trees our Lorax, Charles Fraser, so bravely protected including the state’s largest Southern Red Cedar dating back to 1595! If you prefer to stay indoors, the Museum holds many art exhibits in its 1100 square foot gallery dedicated to the appreciation of both traveling and local artists. Every few months you can find new exhibits honoring everything from the Civil War to landscaping bringing a new outlook on the island and its art.

If the sun is beginning to get to you visit The Sandbox, an interactive museum intent on amusing and stimulating your children. Kids of all ages from infant to 8 years old will surely find something for them that allow you to connect with them on an intellectual level. Find out what interests them and allow them playtime away from the beach. The Sandbox offer a variety of activities that can captivate any child’s interest, allowing something for both Susie’s love of sea creatures and Bobby’s interest in rock climbing.

The Heritage Library is a historical building built to hold the treasure of the genealogy and history of the island. Visit historical sites or do research from content only the library has access to. This is a great place to do some learning and satisfy the cultural curiosity in you.

Inside Sea Pines you’ll find the famous Harbour Town Lighthouse built in 1970 to attract tourists. Guide yourself up 114 steps to the top learning along the way about not only the story of the lighthouse but also island history and wildlife. Press a penny along the way to keep as a souvenir, or pick out something unique from the lighthouse shop!
